Wound Infection Panel
A wound infection occurs when bacteria gain access and multiplies inside the wound and can significantly delay the healing process. A wound is considered chronic when it does not progress through the normal stages of healing within 3 months or if it relapses. There are several factors that can contribute to the delay of the wound healing such as diabetes, neurological defect, vascular insufficiency, nutrient deficiency, aging, and infection.
Wound infections require immediate treatment, hence proper identification of the causative agent of the infection is very important for proper diagnosis and treatment to help prevent serious complications.
